Tandem Kayaking.

Looking for the biggest adrenaline rush on the Mighty Nile? Tandem kayaking lets you take on some of the biggest and best rapids in a single day.

Facing huge wave trains, crashing white water and powerful hydraulics, it’s a team effort between you and your guide to make it through all of the rapids successfully.

We’ve partnered with Kayak The Nile to offer our clients the very best kayaking experience. You’ll have the best guides and equipment from Kayak the Nile, along with the logistics and incredible day out that Nalubale are renowned for.

Trips run everyday with minimum client number of 2 from Jinja or 4 from Kampala

You will be paddling the river with our expert tandem kayaking guides who know the river like the backs of their hands. For those who like the idea of having their own craft, taking on the white water truly down at river level and getting the best experience, or simply for those who have done rafting before and want to step it up, tandem kayaking is perfect.

You sit in the front of a double seater kayak and provide the power to get through the waves. Your guide, in the back seat, has the job of instructing you when to put in the energy and steering you both safely down the rapids

Spent almost a week in Jinja and loved it, especially all the activities on offer. We went tandem kayaking down some of the rapids on the Nile with Kayak the Nile. The guides were amazing and made the trip feel so fun whilst really safe. A definite place to go if you are in East Africa and looking for some adventure.

Our 1 day trip covers roughly 19km of the Nile. We start on the flat water just a couple of kilometers downstream of the Bujagali Dam where we'll run through a comprehensive safety training with you. We start the day with Jaws, Pyramid and Giggitty Giggitty, a great easy section of grade 2 whitewater to train you up and whet your appetite before the big stuff. By the time you get to your first major rapid of the day - Overtime (grade 5) you'll be feeling like a professional! Immediately after Overtime comes the choice between the grade 4+ Chop Suey and grade 4 Retrospect, (water level dependent). Then comes some flat water and a chance to relax before Bubugo (Grade 3/4) which though small to the eye often flips rafts over! After Bubugo we go visit the legendary rapid ‘Superhole’ (grade 3) for a spot of raft surfing before continuing down and having some light refreshments during a short flat before the incredible Itanda Falls! Itanda is a mandatory portage, being much too dangerous for us to commercially raft, we do however run the bottom third of the rapid known as the 'Bad Place'. Water level dependent there are 3 line choices here all depending how brave you are feeling!! Vengeance finishes up our day, a grade 4, two-tier rapid which can often offer a flip for those who dare hit the biggest waves! After loading our truck and a short 15min drive we stop at our Riverside base to enjoy a great meal and cold beers overlooking the river! All in all a great way to finish the day. From here we’ll have transport back to wherever you’re heading either Jinja or Kampala.

What to bring:

Shorts and t-shirt to wear on the water - if you sunburn easily consider long sleeves.

Suncream - you will be out in the sun for 4 - 5 hours - sunburn is our most common injury.

A change of clothes including a hoody or jacket for the drive home.

Any personal medication.

A water bottle - we have gone plastic bottle free - you will find water available throughout the day and we have cups should you need them.

Money to pay on arrival, extras such as t-shirts can also be bought from the base.

A sense of humor. It helps make the day a whole load more fun!
