The river Nile
“… of the source of
the Nile no one can give any account…
it enters Egypt from parts beyond.”
Herodotus, book ii, 34.
With its 6,695 kilometers the River Nile is widely regarded the longest river on
the planet. The Nile has been the lifeline for Ugandan, Sudanese and Egyptian
cultures since ancient times.
The Egyptians, Greeks and Romans wondered about the source of the Nile for
millennia and made several attempts at solving the mystery. However, it was not
until 1856 when John Hanning Speke identified Lake Victoria as The Source of the
Nile, that the question was answered and, as Speke stated when returning home,
”The Nile has been settled”.
In the 21st century the Nile continues to be a symbol of mystery and adventure
and although the mystery was indeed solved by Speke, Nalubale Rafting ensures
that the adventure is still very much alive! The first 30 kilometers of the
River Nile offers some of the most challenging, stunning and fun rapids in the
